WECLP WHAT'S ON GUIDE TO LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND ACTIVITIES IN THE LOCAL AREA

At a recent meeting of the West Edinburgh Community Learning Partnership, the Group discussed the problems that have arisen as a result of the closure of the West Edinburgh Times.   It was realised that it was going to be very difficult for local organisations to promote and publicise their programmes, activities and services to the local community of Wester Hailes, Broomhouse, Sighthill and Longstone.  The West Edinburgh Times was delivered to 12,000 households in the local area.

The WECLP decided to contact all partner organisations to see if they would be interested in advertising their programmes/learning activities in a WECLP partnership booklet/newsletter.  If there was sufficient interest from local organisations, it was suggested that we would produce a booklet/newsletter three times per year (August/September, December/January and March/April) to promote learning activities and services in the area.  We recognise that we can publicise our programmes using posters and leaflets and distribute them to key points in the community e.g. libraries, community centres, doctor’s surgeries etc but we will not be reaching the local people who do not visit these centres or use these services.

We had an excellent response from local organisations that were keen to advertise their programmes and activities in this way and the result is the attached first issue of the What’s On booklet.  The booklet is self-financing with one page in one colour costing £125 and a full colour page on the front/back cover costing £165.  The booklet is being delivered to 12,000 homes in the local area (same distribution as the West Edinburgh Times).

If you are interested in advertising in the next issue (due to be delivered at the beginning at August), please contact Christine on 458 5959 or e-mail christine.vincenti@ea.edin.sch.uk for further information.
