Access to Industry Access to Industry exists to widen access to new learning opportunities for disadvantaged and excluded groups to promote scoial justice and inclusion.

Adult Learners' Forum in Edinburgh (ALFiE) ALFiE is a voluntary organisation run by and for adult learners. More than 25,000 adult learners in Edinburgh take part in community based groups, courses and attend evening classes. ALFiE is their only means of meeting, sharing ideas and experiences and expressing their collective views to decision makers.  If you are concerned about adult education or if you are an adult learner studying full time, part-time or just a couple of hours a week, you may be interested in joining us.

Bits and Bobs

Bits and Bobs is a recycling arts and play store for the whole community.  It runs as a social enterprise to provide supported employment for people with disabilities.


Black Community Development Project The Black Community Development Project is one of the leading organisations in Scotland, developing community-based initiatives to promote social justice and improved lives for diverse minority ethnic people.

Broomhouse Centre The Broomhouse Centre aims to provide personal, social and community development opportunities to disadvantaged groups of people in and around Broomhouse in the areas of community care, health, education, training, social inclusion and outreach.

Careers Scotland

CHAI (Community Help & Advice Initiative) The Community Help & Advice Initiative (CHAI) provides a range of social welfare and housing support services to the residents of West and South Edinburgh.  The key aim of CHAI is the alleviation of poverty and disadvantage through support, direct assistance and education.

Dove Centre The Dove Centre is dedicated to supporting older people aged 50+ to remain as independent as they can be through a variety of socially inclusive transports, learning, social welfare, activity, health and volunteering opportunities.

The Edinburgh Compact Partnership is the primary context within which statutory partners come face to face with a range of voluntary and community sector (sometimes called the ‘third sector’) interests.


Edinburgh Leisure Edinburgh Leisure, a not for profit organisation, is a leading leisure trust with a turnover of £23 million and growing, 750 employees and over 3.9 million customers a year.  To help these customers stay active we manage an extensive portfolio of sports & leisure facilities for the City of Edinburgh Council from sports and leisure centres to swimming pools; sailing schools to golf courses.

Edspace Edspace will help people in Edinburgh experiencing mental health problems, and their carers, find the services they need.  As well as an online Directory of mental health services in Edinburgh, the website  includes Fact Sheets on a wide range of topics relating to mental health and well-being.

 


Feet First Edinburgh Project Feet First is a walking programme devised by The Waterways Trust Scotland, aimed at promoting walking as a healthy and enjoyable form of exercise, free and accessible to all.

Health Strategy Group The Health Strategy Group works with local people in Broomhouse and North Sighthill to promote healthy lifestyles and develop health projects in the area.

ILA Scotland

ILA Scotland is a Scottish Government scheme that helps you pay for learning that you can do at a time, place, pace and in a way to suit you.  If you are over 18 and living in Scotland, you could get up to £200 towards the cost of learning new skills with an individual learning account from ILA Scotland.  If you earn £18,000 a year or less, you could get £200 a year towards the cost of learning. If you earn more than £18,000 a year, you could get £100 a year.

 


Impact Arts Fab Pad Project

Fab Pad is a unique youth housing project, working with the most vulnerable young people in Scotland. The project focuses on an individual young person’s needs at a vital stage in their progression out of a chaotic lifestyle - when he or she starts a new tenancy.  Courses are currently offered in WHALE.


Jewel and Esk Valley College Jewel and Esk Valley College is one of Scotland's largest college and is renowned for its friendly, individual approach to student care.

Keep Well Project South West Edinburgh

Keep Well is a free health check for people aged 45-64 living in certain areas of Scotland. It involves simple checks for conditions like heart disease and suggestions for ways to improve your health.  The South West Edinburgh project is based in Sighthill Health Centre.

Napier is a friendly, lively, modern University, with campuses conveniently located around south central Edinburgh. 


Platform Adult Learning Centre

Platform aims to offer learning opportunities that best meet the educational, personal and economic needs and aspirations of learners, irrespective of age, gender or culture.  Platform provides informal learning for adults in the community, particularly skills around everyday writing and numbers and using computers.


Powerful Partnerships

Powerful Partnerships is a Citizen Advocacy Organisation which supports people throughout Edinburgh.  They aim to support people labelled as having a learning disability to speak up for themselves, or to speak up on their behalf, in order that they can, as fully as possible, participate in decisions made about their lives.


Prospect Community Housing

Prospect Community Housing provides and manages 888 homes for rent in Wester Hailes.  Our aim is to constantly improve our services through our own efforts and by working with other organisations.

Re-Union Canal Boats

Re-Union Canal Boats is a social enterprise that hires out a canal boat on Edinburgh's Union Canal for staff away days, events, training, conferences and community activities.


Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) The  Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations  is the national body representing the voluntary sector. SCVOseeks to advance the values and shared interests of the voluntary sector.  There are 45,000 voluntary organisations in Scotland involving up to 130,000 paid staff and over 1.2 million volunteers.

Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP)

SWAP promotes access to Higher Education for mature students throughout Scotland.  SWAP works in partnership with the colleges and universities of Scotland to provide a route into Higher Education for adults with few or no qualifications or out of date qualifications.

The Volunteer Centre Edinburgh

Volunteer Centre Edinburgh works with volunteers and volunteer involving organisations in the Edinburgh area.   They can put people in contact with organisations where they can volunteer,  provide advice and information to organisations on involving volunteers and promote social inclusion through volunteering.


West Edinburgh Business Incubator WEBI offers free support, guidance and training to those thinking of starting their own business in West Edinburgh.

West Edinburgh Voluntary Sector Forum The West Edinburgh Voluntary Sector Forum exists to support and strengthen the service-delivery voluntary sector in West Edinburgh (covering the areas of Longstone, Sighthill, Parkhead, Broomhouse and Wester Hailes).

Wester Hailes Education Centre  The Wester Hailes Education Centre aims to offer high quality and accessible education and leisure opportunities to students of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and ethnic groups.

WHALE Arts Agency

WHALE Arts Agency works in partnership with the local authority, voluntary organisations, Further and Higher education institutions and Primary and Secondary Schools,  to provide innovative activities and progressive routes to life long learning for excluded individuals in Wester Hailes and across the city of Edinburgh.


Women onto Work Women Onto Work (WOW) core activities involve the running of pre-vocational training courses for women who live in the Social Inclusion Partnership areas of Edinburgh, as well as city centre courses for black and minority ethnic women.

Working for Families

Working for Families is an initiative funded by the Scottish Government to help parents access employment or training courses.  Our community based advisers provide friendly and practical support with childcare advice, options and costs; advice on job opportunities, training, volunteering, work placements and money and benefits solutions.
