West Edinburgh Community Learning Partnership (WECLP)


The West Edinburgh Community Learning Partnership (WECLP) is one of the most active and productive Community Learning Partnerships in the city.  The WECLP focuses its activities in the Wester Hailes, Broomhouse, Sighthill and Longstone areas of the city.  The Partnership works closely with the South West Edinburgh Community Learning Partnership and WAGLex.
The South West Edinburgh and West Edinburgh Community Learning Partnerships exist to:
  • attract people from excluded groups to community learning
  • promote access to guidance and encourage access to progression opportunities
  • provide networking opportunities to partners in the field of community learning
  • affirm and develop best community learning and development practice through monitoring and evaluation
The WECLP has three groups:

1. Core Group
Members of the Core Group are: Community Empowerment Project, Wester Hailes Education Training Managers Group, Napier University, Stevenson College, City of Edinburgh Council Community Learning & Development, Platform Adult Learning Centre, West Edinburgh Action, Prospect Housing Association, WHALE Arts Agency, Wester Hailes Education Centre, West Edinburgh Voluntary Sector Forum, Wester Hailes Library
The Core Group meet every 4-6 weeks.

2 . Reference Group
The WECLP Reference Group has over 40 representatives from local organisations based in the Wester Hailes, Broomhouse, Sighthill and Longstone areas of the city.  Members of the group receive regular e-mails regarding learning opportunities, events and activities taking place in the local area.  The group meet every 3-4 months.  Guest speakers are often invited to attend meetings e.g. Learndirect Scotland. 
3. Adult Guidance Group
This group focuses on issues around adult guidance, motivating first time learners, inter-agency networking and adult education.
Members of the Adult Guidance Group are:  Community Empowerment Project, CLAN, South West Community Learning & Development Family Learning, Queen Margaret University, Napier University, Stevenson College, West Edinburgh Action, City of Edinburgh Council Community Learning and Development, Wester Hailes Library, Platform Adult Learning Centre, Wester Hailes Education Centre.
The Adult Guidance group meet every 3 months with meetings usually taking place in February, May, August and November.
